 When massive rainstorms or flash flooding hit wide concrete surfaces—like driveways, patio decks, commercial loading bays, and parking aprons—gravity causes water to rapidly sheet across the smooth stone. Left unchecked, this rushing surface water slams into garage doors, floods low-lying entryways, pools against foundation slabs, and washes out adjacent turf.

Traditional lawn drains or small catch basins cannot keep up with high-velocity sheet-flow.   • Reinforced Concrete Encasement: We set our channels inside a dedicated concrete pour. Encasing the channel in high-strength concrete prevents the trench walls from flexing, cracking, or bowing inward when heavy trucks or vehicles drive over the line.
  • High-Load Grating Options: Depending on traffic requirements, we install corrosion-resistant cast iron, ductile iron, or heavy-gauge stainless steel grates. Can a channel drain be retrofitted into an existing concrete driveway or patio?

Yes. We frequently install channel drains in existing concrete. We use diamond-blade concrete saws to cut a precise trench through the existing slab, excavate the underlying base, install the channel grid with solid PVC discharge piping, and pour a fresh concrete collar around the new trench so it ties seamlessly into your existing hardscape.


What load rating do I need for a driveway channel drain?

For standard residential driveways where cars, SUVs, and light trucks drive over the grate, a Class B (up to 174 psi / 27,500 lbs) load-rated grate is ideal. If your driveway experiences heavy commercial traffic, delivery trucks, or large RVs, we step up to Class C or Class D heavy-duty ductile iron grates to ensure zero bending or structural cracking under weight.


How do you keep leaves and dirt from clogging a long channel drain?

Our trench systems utilize slotted or decorative grates designed to block large leaves and twigs while allowing water to drop through. Inside the channel end-cap or inline junction box, an integrated sediment trap basket captures fine debris. You simply lift off the grate section once or twice a year and dump out the basket to keep the system flowing at peak capacity.
